One thing we wanted to accomplish on this trip to Paris was a visit to Versailles. I love a bit of opulence and you'd be hard pushed to find anywhere in the world more over the top than Versailles! The interior of the palace is undoubtably stunning, all marble and gold leaf for days (honestly you can see why people were peeved at the time) and walking through the hall of mirrors was spine tingling, but for me the gardens were the real prize.
Versailles is the inception of gardens - too many gardens within gardens to be able to keep count. There are marble statues and fountains everywhere you turn and the baroque chamber music playing at full blast makes everything very atmospheric.
My favourite part of the whole experience was visiting the Petit Trianon, Marie Antoinette's favourite hideaway and site of the purpose built peasant farm and village complete with veggie patches and vineyards. 100% magical.

The prettiest courtyard in Paris
Have you ever noticed how time disappears in the city of light? There is never long enough to pack it all in; you do a gallery or two, visit a couple of shops, grab some a pastries and it's time to get back on the Eurostar.
This time around we stayed in my favourite St. Germain (an apartment on a left bank Haussmann boulevard is definitely at the top of my 'things I would buy with a lottery win' list), ate croissants each morning from Eric Kayser on Rue du Bac, went shopping on rue Bonaparte and watched the world go by from a set of green chairs in the Jardin de Luxembourg, such a stunning place it deserves it's own post!
My favourite thing to do in Paris is to spend an afternoon getting lost, not physically, but in the faces, sights, sounds and beauty that surrounds. A loose plan of action and a healthy appetite for flânerie is always the best way to navigate cities and letting your instincts guide you round always leads to the most magical discoveries.
Stick around for a run through of my Paris favourites coming soon, until then x
